Expats highlight attractions of Turkey
A new study has outlined the main attractions of Turkey to foreign expatriates.
Research by Dokuz Eylul University (DEU) revealed that the south-east European country has become very popular because it offers good weather, reports Today's Zaman.
The favourable climate was said to be particularly appealing to retirees who are looking for a sunny location in which to spend their post-working life.
Turkey's historical heritage and cultural points of interest were flagged up as other pull factors.
However, practical considerations such as the financial benefits it offers were also said to be an important issue.
For example, many of those who have set up home in Turkey stated that they were tempted by its relatively cheap property prices.
DEU's study was mainly carried out in the Antalya region, which is home to almost 14,000 retired foreign nationals.
According to many of these people, Turkey's efforts to join the European Union have also been influential in encouraging them to live there full-time.
This comes after Sweden's prime minister said he "fully supports" the country's bid to become a member of the international body.
