Expats should plan removals carefully
People who are planning to set up home overseas have been advised to make their preparations earlier by a removal firm.
Burke Bros said that since transporting a person's belongings is a large part of moving house, it can be more difficult when a person is moving abroad.
Therefore, the firm has suggested that people plan for the removal of their possessions as early as possible and address issues such as insurance.
Gary Burke, managing director of the firm, commented: "There are many important things to get right to prevent last-minute problems arising.
"People need to get quotations and information 3 to 4 months before they plan to move."
Mr Burke added that people should carry out thorough research into the removal company they intend to use, as they need to know they are a "bona fide" firm which provides a good service.
He recommended that expatriates use companies with their own vehicles, packers and industry accreditations.
According to the Office for National Statistics, about 207,000 UK nationals moved abroad during 2006.
The organisation highlighted Spain and France as two of the most popular destinations.
