Expats 'should research culture of new home'
People who are planning to relocate to another country have been advised to research the customs and language of their new home.
ShelterOffshore.com stated that if British nationals move to a non-English speaking nation, they are likely to benefit from getting a basic grounding in its language.
The online portal recommended that expatriates buy a book and dictionary in order to learn several choice phrases.
In addition, it said new arrivals should begin speaking the language as soon as they enter the country and interact with locals as often as possible.
The website added that finding out about local customs, traditions and cultural expectations is also advisable.
ShelterOffshore.com said: "Be respectful and understanding of the culture you're moving to and live and behave according to local traditions."
According to Jill Rutter of the Institute of Public Policy Research, Britons are increasingly moving abroad because they are more affluent than in the past.
Speaking to the Guardian, she added that a record number of people are choosing to relocate each year.
