Expats 'unhappy with life in UK'

Many British people are moving abroad because they are unhappy with life in the UK, it has been claimed.

According to property analyst ShelterOffshore.com, Britain is currently experiencing a "mass exodus".

The website attributed this to a number of factors, such as concerns over crime and immigration, as well as the faltering housing market in the UK.

In addition, many people were said to be concerned about issues relating to civil liberties, such as the government's plans to create a giant database containing sensitive and personal information.

The comments came after official figures revealed that nearly 2 million British nationals moved abroad between 1997 and 2007.

ShelterOffshore.com said: "We think that the steady increase in numbers does indeed have a lot to do with the state of the UK."

According to a study by NatWest, most British expatriates consider themselves wealthier, healthier and happier now that they live abroad.
