Foreign property owners urged to get insurance

People who own a holiday home in another country are being encouraged to check whether they have sufficient insurance.

According to Zurich Private Clients, one in ten foreign property owners do not have the contents of their home covered by an insurance policy.

Nevertheless, their properties contain an average of £15,000 worth of goods and can be left unoccupied for months on end.

As a result, the AA has reminded investors of the importance of making sure their personal possessions are adequately protected.

Ian Crowder, public relations manager at the organisation, commented: "When you're taking out insurance and you're looking at contents, it's important to make sure you've got sufficient cover for everything and that you do include everything."

He added that some people fail to buy an insurance policy largely out of apathy.

Figures from Zurich also show that 11% of foreign property owners do not know whether they have sufficient insurance cover.
