Foreign visitors 'spending more in Cyprus'
Cyprus' economy is continuing to be boosted by foreign visitors, new figures have revealed.
The Statistical Service Cystat said that during September this year, the number of holidaymakers on the island was 6.4 per cent higher than during the same period of 2006.
Data cited by the Financial Mirror also showed that the amount spent by tourists also increased at the same time.
Whereas visitors spent £172 million during September 2006, leisure travellers spent £188 million 12 months later.
This means that the growth in tourism revenue in the last year is larger than the increase in visitor numbers, as the rises were 9.3% and 6.4% respectively.
The findings highlight the growing appeal of the Mediterranean island as a holiday destination, meaning that demand for tourist accommodation will increase as a result.
UK newspaper the Times recently predicted that Cyprus' appeal to foreign property buyers could be enhanced by its forthcoming entry into the euro.
