French properties 'busiest for Brits'

People with property in France receive the most visits from friends and family members, a new survey has revealed.

Research from Alliance & Leicester International shows that homes in France are the busiest for their British owners, with an average of nearly ten people visiting annually from the UK.

Spanish homes were also found to be popular with visiting Brits, as each property owner in Spain receives an average of eight visits per year.

"A quick trip to France is a more affordable option than jetting across the world to Australia, and this is displayed in the survey findings," commented Simon Ripton, joint managing director of Alliance & Leicester International.

Destinations such as France and Spain are expected to become even more popular with British travellers due to the growing cost of long-haul flights.

A rise in air passenger duties is set to make flying to countries such as Australia and Thailand significantly more expensive over the next two years, while the cost of travelling to European destinations will face only marginal increases.
