Germans visit neighbouring European nations

Holidaymakers from Germany are mainly opting to visit other European countries, a new study has found.

Research by German travel magazine Urlaub Perfekt revealed that Spain was the most popular destination for German leisure travellers.

More than 1,200 were found to favour the country because it offered attractions such as good weather and beaches.

However, the study also showed that many Germans were keen to visit less established holiday markets elsewhere in Europe.

For example, Bulgaria was named as one of the most popular tourist destinations, along with Turkey.

The overall rankings were calculated after each country was rated on criteria including affordability, customer service and the quality of accommodation.

This comes after official data showed that ten million German holidaymakers visited Spain last year.
