Golf boosting Iberian property market

The property markets in Spain and Portugal are being boosted by the popularity of golf courses of the Iberian peninsular.

According to Paul Collins, overseas property editor at Buyassociation, the strength of the golf tourism market in the region is such that it can have a significant impact on the level of foreign property investment.

"For the builders to fund the golf courses they build properties around the site. Thus we are seeing more golf property developments appearing in overseas property, even in Spain and Portugal, where there are already large amounts of golf facilities and properties associated with golf courses.

"This has an affect not only on the properties being built, but also the rental prospects of the properties on-site."

Spain and Portugal already have reputations for excellent golf courses - the Lisbon Golf Coast was recently voted the best European golf destination by the International Association of Golf Tour Operators.

Developers are now boosting the popularity of their courses, and consequently their properties, by drafting in famous names such as Jack Nicklaus to design them.
