Governor of Florida reiterates pledge to cut property tax
Florida's new governor Charlie Crist continued to back his proposal for property tax cuts in his first state of the state speech.
Governor Crist has called for reductions in public spending - making property tax cuts possible - but also planned for billions of dollars of spending on public improvements in Florida.
"The American dream of home ownership is being crushed under the weight of property taxes," Governor Crist said, in rhetorical mood.
"Our state cannot be a place of opportunity if we cannot fulfil the American promise of home ownership. I have set forth a plan to reduce property taxes by doubling your homestead exemption, making the save our homes protection portable and extending that protection to business and rental properties as well," he added.
In the speech, Governor Crist also identified $100 million (~£52 million) to help restore the Everglades.
Such promises on tax cuts and preservation will make the state, which Inside Track's Pierre Williamson described as having the best performing property market in the world, even more attractive to homebuyers and holidaymakers.
