'Green skiing holidays' available in France
High-speed rail networks mean that people heading to France for a skiing holiday can feel less guilty about their carbon footprints.
Writing in the Independent last week, Natalie Holmes explained how a recent ski trip to Les Arcs resort came with the added bonus of being environmentally-friendly, as her family used the Eurostar service to get to France.
Eurostar trains now travel from London to the heart of the French Alps, allowing British skiers to bypass long airport queues and head straight to the slopes.
The green element is another reason for the growing popularity of high-speed rail travel among skiers, as Eurostar pledges that its trains are carbon neutral.
Ms Holmes stated: "Not only does a train journey use a 10th of the energy per kilometre as going by plane, but the carbon emissions are all offset."
She also paid tribute to the quality of France's ski resorts, claiming that "the conditions and facilities far outstripped our earlier experiences in eastern Europe and Finland".
Connections to Moutiers, Aime La Plagne and Bourg St Maurice are available from the Eurostar terminals at London St Pancras and Ashford.
