Growth in Romania 'continues'

Economic growth of the gross domestic product in Romania stood at 6.5% in the first half of the year, reports have suggested.

This is according to the economy and finance minister Varujan Vosganian and the economy picked up during the second quarter, reports zf.ro.

Overall, the economy saw growth of 7.4% during the first half of the year, the minister stated, something that could be put down to the good performance of industry.

During May, industrial output increased by 6.8%, the official also stated.

In addition, in news that may concern potential property investors in the country, growth in the construction sector also stands at its highest level for 17 years, with it approaching 9 billion euros (£6 billion), up from 6.5 billion euros in 2006.

Recently, chairman of the National Forecast commission Ion Ghizdeanu suggested that the construction boom in the country will be good news for the economy with "higher than expected increases" forthcoming.
