Hotel launch to boost profile of Montenegro

The opening of a new hotel by luxury accommodation chain Amanresorts this year offers evidence that Montenegro's tourism market is steadily growing in stature.

Selected by the Guardian as one of the 'hippest new hotels' for 2009, the Aman Sveti Stefan is the first European hotel developed by Aman, which operates luxury resorts in Thailand, India, Indonesia and other Asian locations.

The resort is scheduled to open in August and offers holidaymakers the chance to escape to the island of Sveti Stefan, which is separated from mainland Montenegro by a causeway.

Incorporating former royal residence Villa Milocer, the hotel is expected to attract a number of new high-end visitors to Montenegro for this summer onwards.

The country's property market is also continuing to attract interest from foreign parties, with nubricks.com recently reporting on the large number of Russian investors buying property in Montenegro.
