Hotel sees growth from 'more events'

The 5-star hotel in Bucharest, Howard Johnson Grand Plaza Hotel, has seen large profits for the first 6 months of the year of 9 million euros (£6.1 million).

A number of factors were cited by the hotel for the rise in profits, including economic factors and a number of events being held on the domestic setting, reports zf.ro.

Marketing and sales manager at the hotel Gratiela Badicu stated that Romania is a thriving country that offers visitors a lot.

"The main factors behind the growth include the increase in Bucharest's rating as a destination for business travel, the rise in the number of large-scale political, economic and even sporting events," he told the publication.

Moreover, the hotel has seen an average occupancy rate of 70% for the fist 6 months of the year, it said. Next year will see it deal with the Nato summit in April.

Recently, the drugs company Teva said that it is putting Romania at the top of its investments agenda.
