House prices rise in Morocco

Many investors in the Moroccan housing market could be benefiting from high levels of capital growth, a media outlet has suggested.

UK-based newspaper the Independent said that in recent years, the north African country has become popular among those with exotic tastes.

The publication stated that authorities in Morocco have reacted accordingly by introducing a development programme that has seen the creation of many new properties in popular areas.

Morocco's growing popularity has therefore seen these houses become subject to strong demand, thereby pushing up prices in tourist hotspots.

The Independent commented: "Since the country's development programme started in earnest, large-scale construction of residential projects have increased prices."

Marrakesh was said to have seen the bulk of the new development, along with many coastal towns and cities.

Earlier this week, the country was highlighted as a popular destination by the Association of British Travel Agents.

The organisation said that Morocco was proving to be popular because UK holidaymakers were increasingly opting to visit more exotic locations.
