Investors in Spain 'moving inland'

Investors in Spain are increasingly moving away from coastal areas into less developed regions, experts have said.

According to the advice portal Spanishpropertyinsight.com, the country is still highly popular with buyers from the UK, although many are starting to shun built-up areas by the sea.

Mark Stucklin, spokesperson for the site, commented: "Certain types of people are not attracted by the heavy development of the coast."

He added that overseas investors from Britain were much more cautious than they used to be, with many looking into different parts of the country first and delaying their decisions.

Despite this, he said the British "love affair" with Spain was still strong, as people from the UK were the most important group of buyers in the country apart from the Spanish themselves.

According to recent figures from Halifax, house prices in Spain have risen by 100 per cent during the last five years.
