Istria proves popular
The Croatian peninsula of Istria is proving popular among those seeking to buy a property in a warm European country, reports the International Herald Tribune.
Traditionally the southern coast of Croatia has proved the most popular with those seeking a second home, but of late Istria has been gaining attention.
Prices on the peninsula have climbed and currently 34% of properties in the area are owned by non-Croatians.
Peter Ellis, director of Croatia Property Services in Istria, told the paper: "I've been amazed by the people who buy property without visiting."
Istria is located at the head of the Adriatic, between the Gulf of Trieste and the Bay of Kvarner.
The peninsula boasts beautiful beaches and the majestic Ucka mountain range, as well as lush forests and clear lakes.
Pula, the area's largest town, is a picturesque, cosmopolitan centre of Croatian arts and culture.
Furthermore, the peninsula benefits from hot summers and relatively mild, cool winters.
