Italy 'popular with older Britons'

Italy is the most popular European holiday destination among older British tourists, according to a new poll.

Research by Saga Holidays found that one in seven holidaymakers from the UK visited Italy for their summer break.

However, the country was found to be the most popular option in various age groups, including the over-55s, potentially boosting its status as an investment hotspot and retirement destination.

Andrew Goodsell, chief executive of Saga Group, said: "With its fine food, stunning scenery and fantastic range of cultural experiences, Italy seems to have stolen a march on its competitors."

He added that it was good to see that traditional European destinations were still popular with people of all ages, including Spain, France and Portugal.

According to BuyAssociation, Italy's culture and way of life is one of the main attractions for overseas property buyers who are considering entering the market.
