Leisure travellers venture outside eurozone

The weakening pound is directly impacting on the destination choices of British holidaymakers, the Post Office has revealed.

According to the organisation, people are increasingly taking exchange rates into account when booking their trips abroad.

This is largely because the pound has now fallen to a record low against the euro, which means some places which use the single European currency could be very expensive.

As a result, the Post Office believes that countries outside the eurozone will become more popular while the status quo persists.

A spokesperson told the Eastern Daily Press: "We believe that people will be smarter about where they choose to go."

He added that last month, sales of Turkish currency were 30% up on the same time last year.

This was partially attributed to the fact that the country offers a relatively low cost of living.

According to government figures cited by TurkishPress.com, Turkey attracted 1.7 million visitors during January and February this year.
