London-Paris trip made in record time
Eurostar's new high-speed rail service has travelled between Paris and London in record time.
The rail link, which was launched yesterday, left the French capital and arrived at St Pancras station in less than two hours and four minutes.
By going to the newly-renovated St Pancras instead of Waterloo, about 20 minutes has been cut from the overall journey time.
This could benefit both holidaymakers and overseas property investors, as mainland Europe will be more easily accessible from the UK.
Ben Ruse from London and Continental Railways, told BBC News: "It's an absolute milestone in the history of rail travel in the UK."
A BBC reporter carried a GPS device while travelling on the line and found that the train's speed peaked at 202mph in France and 195mph in the UK.
Yesterday's inaugural service only carried journalists and invited guests, although the 68-mile line will open to the public later this year.
