McDonald's highlights Romanian potential in expansion plans

McDonald's, the world's largest fast-food chain, has revealed its confidence in the Romanian economy as it announced new plans for a nationwide expansion programme.

The restaurant brand stated that it wished to increase the number of its stores from 52 to 100 - thanks largely to the expansion of the Romanian economy and the increased purchasing power of the local consumer base.

The Ziarul Financiar news provider quoted Cristian Savu, communications manager at McDonald's, as saying that Romanians have been increasingly attracted to shopping areas - an area that the food company would like to expand its presence.

"Romania has huge potential and we consider the current number of outlets to be insufficient," he remarked.

Mr Savu added that other locations - including traditional locations and outlets in established buildings - are also being considered for the expansion.

McDonald's has had a presence in Romania since 1995, when it became the 66th country to host the restaurant brand.
