Millions of people go to Turkey

Turkey is continuing to attract millions of visitors from overseas, new figures have revealed.

Data cited by the Turkish Press showed that throughout the year to date, Istanbul has received more than 6 million foreign arrivals.

During the same period of 2006, almost five million international travellers chose to visit the city.

This means that tourism in Istanbul has gone up by 21.8 per cent in the last year and that depend for rental accommodation is much higher.

As a result, overseas property owners may be in line to benefit, as the growth in tourism could make a holiday home a highly sought-after commodity.

The figures also showed the nationalities of the visitors, with 15 per cent of foreign holidaymakers coming from Germany.

In addition, Istanbul was found to be a very popular holiday destination among Russians.

This comes after Turkish Airlines reported increased profits over the last year.
