Montenegrin airport reports booming traffic numbers
Tivat Airport in Montenegro has reported booming traffic figures with the announcement that it handled more than 4,000 passengers last weekend for the first time in its history, according to recent reports.
On Saturday, some 4,043 passengers used the airport, with the vast majority of flights being both scheduled and charter flights from abroad. Furthermore, a significant proportion of aircraft were large, long-distance jet aircraft, such as Boeing 757s and 767s.
MA Ranko Boskovic, director of Tivat Airport, is quoted by the Visit-Montenegro.com news provider as saying that the figures for May 2007 represent a noteworthy increase over the number of passengers seen during May 2006.
"Should this tempo of traffic [continue] I expect that we will end this month with a circulation of up to 45,000 passengers," he said in an interview with Vijesti.
Passenger numbers to Tivat could continue to increase as seminal British rock group the Rolling Stones are set to play in Montenegro on June 9th 2007.
The band's latest tour - entitled A Bigger Bang - takes in several places that the Stones have never played before.
