Montenegro reveals booming tourist numbers for northern coast

The number of tourists visiting the Tivat Riviera on the north coast of Montenegro have surged significantly, according to new statistics released by the local tourist organisation.

Over the first 3 months of the year, some 2,124 visitors collectively enjoyed more than 8,000 days of holiday in the region, Visit-Montenegro.com reports.

With a growing rental property in the area, investors may be interested to know that this represents a 44% increase on the levels seen during the first 3 months of 2006, while overnight stays grew by 19%.

Now preparations are underway for what is expected to be a busy holiday season. Veselin Smoovic, a precinct head, told Visit-Montenegro.com that the police would be working hard to ensure that the Tivat is running smoothly to ensure guests have the best possible stay.

One attraction unique to this summer in Montenegro is a performance from seminal British rock group, the Rolling Stones, who play in Budva on July 9th 2007.

Frontman Mick Jagger is quoted by Reuters as saying: "We've got a lot of places we haven't been before, which is exciting and some old favourites and the gigs we did not do on the last tour."
