More Americans visiting Europe
An increasing number of American holidaymakers are choosing to spend their leisure time in Europe, new figures have revealed.
A survey by Donald N. Martin & Co found that the continent had become a more popular option for tourists from the US, reports TravelMole.
The research showed that on a year-by-year basis, the number of American visitors in Spain rose by almost a third, while an increase of 28.5% was recorded in Italy.
This will be good news for the tourist industry in both countries, as well as those affiliated with the sector.
For example, Spain and Italy's popularity as a holiday destination has led to many foreign property buyers purchasing rental accommodation in tourist hotspots.
Short-term residences are often in strong demand in these areas, therefore giving many investors the chance to collect strong rental yields.
According to figures from Datamonitor, British and Irish citizens now own more than £44 billion worth of foreign properties, mainly in countries such as Spain.
