More Britons plan to retire abroad
More and more people from the UK are looking into the possibility of retiring abroad, experts have stated.
ShelterOffshore.com said the correspondence it has received in recent months indicates that a very large percentage of retirees plan to head overseas.
The website stated that rising living costs in the UK are driving this trend, along with the country's relatively poor weather.
Spain was highlighted as a particularly popular destination among retirees, as most utilities and essential items are cheaper, while it also offers a pleasant climate.
ShelterOffshore.com remarked: "The cost of living is generally lower when you have less need for fuel to heat your home."
The online portal added that many health issues can be alleviated if retirees live in a location which has warm weather.
According to the Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR), more than three million pensioners will be living abroad by 2050.
IPPR researcher Jill Rutter recently told the Guardian that growing prosperity has fuelled migration from the UK in recent years.
