More Britons retiring overseas

The number of people choosing to retire abroad has gone up in the last few years, analysts have stated.

According to Shelter Offshore, there has been a "significant rise" in migration from the UK in the recent past, especially among older people.

The website said a number of factors are driving this trend, including a growing dissatisfaction with life in Britain.

High living costs were flagged up as one reason why people are unhappy, along with the faltering economy and fears of a recession.

As a result, many Britons believe that their quality of life could improve if they leave the UK and set up home overseas.

Commenting on this trend, Shelter Offshore said: "If Britain doesn't change then the pattern of emigration will not alter - it really is as simple as that."

The remarks come soon after Sir Andrew Green, chairman of Migrationwatch UK, told the Daily Mail that people are also leaving the UK because they are worried about rising crime rates.
