More Britons set to move abroad

Rising costs in the UK could prompt more and more Britons to move abroad, according to an expert.

Property specialist Julian King stated that selling a house was proving to be "unnecessarily costly", as values were falling yet there was a lack of buyers at the same time.

He also said the implementation of the home information packs scheme had been expensive to many British homeowners.

As a result, he has suggested that an increasing number of people could choose to opt out and set up home overseas.

Mr King commented: "Barclays have suggested that 1 in 5 retirees will be moving abroad in the coming five years."

This follows a study by HSBC which found that the UK is the third most expensive country in which to live, after France and Norway.

Research by the high street bank showed that a typical British annual salary could go further overseas, including in places that offer a comparable or better quality of life.
