More people passing through Cypriot airports

An increasing number of people are choosing to visit Cyprus, new figures have revealed.

Data from airport operator Hermes revealed that between January and November, more than six million travellers passed through the hubs at Larnaca and Paphos, reports the Cyprus Mail

According to the organisation, this is a record number and puts it on track to clock up a total of seven million by the end of the year.

Jenni Fernando, director of marketing at Hermes, commented: "We are very satisfied with what we observed for the month of November."

The previous record was set two years ago, as 2005 saw nearly 6.8 million passengers pass through Larnaca and Paphos Airports.

However, the overall number for the first 11 months of 2007 has already exceeded this figure.

Officials on the island recently predicted that the number of foreign arrivals would grow in the next 12 months.

The Cyprus Tourism Organisation stated that visitor numbers in 2008 could be about 10% higher than those recorded this year, reports Travel and Tourism News.
