More tourists set to visit Cyprus

An increased number of tourists are expected to visit the Cypriot city of Larnaca this winter, potentially boosting investment prospects in the region.

Costas Papacharalambous, head of the Larnaca Tourism and Development Awareness Company, said that tourist numbers in the year to date had been higher than during 2006.

Speaking to the Cyprus Mail, he stated that many of the visitors were Britons, as they accounted for about half of all the tourists on the island.

Mr Papacharalambous added that tourism was set to continue throughout the winter months, as the number of bookings for October to December were higher than at the same time last year.

This news is likely to be welcomed by property investors in Cyprus, who were recently told that prices on the island were likely to rise in the next few years.

The Foreign Property Buyer website recently stated that the annual rate of price inflation could go up to as much as 30%.
