More tourists visiting Morocco
The number of foreign consumers choosing to visit Morocco has gone up this year, new figures have revealed.
Official statistics showed that within the first 10 months of 2007, a total of 6.3 million holidaymakers chose to visit the north African country.
This is 14 per cent higher than the figure during the same period of the previous year.
The data from the Department of Tourism also stated that more than 2.4 million visitors came from France, while 1.3 million were Spanish.
In addition, Morocco was found to be a highly popular leisure destination among consumers from Belgium, the UK, Italy and Germany.
The increased visitor numbers will be good news for the government, as it is currently aiming to boost the tourist sector considerably.
Recently, it announced its intention to attract ten million holidaymakers by 2010, a development which would result in considerable demand for rental accommodation.
According to official figures cited by Magharebia.com, tourism accounted for more than half of overall government investment last year.
