More tourists visiting Turkey

An increasing number of international holidaymakers are choosing to visit Turkey, according to new figures.

Data from the Turkish Board of Statistics showed that last month, the number of foreign arrivals was 15.4% up on the same period of 2006.

Meanwhile, the overall figure for the first 11 months of 2007 was said to be 18.2% higher than it had been a year earlier, with more than 22 million people visiting the country.

Turkey was found to appeal to a number of different nationalities, as many holidaymakers came from European countries such as France, Germany and the UK.

In addition, statistics also showed that it was a popular location for Bulgarian, Russian and American leisure travellers.

This suggests that the country could be a good destination for buy-to-let investors to consider, as the growing tourist trade will create increased demand for rental accommodation.

Earlier this week, a spokesperson for the Association of British Travel Agents told the Western Mail that Turkey was likely to be a major hotspot for tourists next year.
