Moroccan government plans to boost tourism

The government in Morocco is to invest in a multimillion pound scheme designed to attract more tourists, it has been revealed.

According to Magharebia.com, approximately £7.3 million will be spent on creating new resorts in the south of the country.

The investment will be focused on the regions of Errachidia, Ouarzazate and Zagora and will see the creation of holiday accommodation and leisure facilities.

This should result in the creation of thousands of new jobs across the area and represents a significant boost to the economy.

In addition, it further demonstrates the commitment of the government to boosting the country's tourism industry, as it plans to attract ten million foreign visitors a year by 2010.

This could potentially encourage more people to invest in the Moroccan property market, as it increases the likelihood of collecting strong rental returns.

Earlier this month, the news provider cited official figures showing that during the last quarter of 2007, the country's GDP rose by 2.1 per cent.
