Moroccan minister promises more homes
The government of Morocco is entering a new five-year phase of homebuilding across the country, it has emerged.
Tawfik Hjira, housing minister for the Moroccan government, has announced new targets for the construction of 150,000 new homes each year under the scheme, reports Magharebia.
This could benefit property investors looking to buy in the country, as it is likely to mean more choice in a popular market.
"What we're going to do is to work hard over the next five years to make use of this favourable investment environment in order to implement the programme," he told the news provider.
The country's King Mohamed VI has highlighted property development as a priority sector, Mr Hirja added.
A high level of support for the new homes will come from the private sector and a new tax system will be put in place to assist the programme, he commented in the article.
The announcement comes as the government is reported to be also investing in the building of 50,000 low-cost villas.
Britons are currently the fast growing tourist market in Morocco, according to Moroccan National Tourist Office figures reported by TravelMole.
