Moroccan tourism sector 'booming'

Morocco's tourism sector is booming as holidaymakers and travellers expand their horizons and seek out new and exciting countries to visit, it has been suggested.

Cultural holiday company Journey Beyond Travel says Muslim nations are proving particularly popular among vacationers who want to learn more about the world.

But the security situation in the Middle East means countries in this region are more difficult to get to and Morocco, which is removed from the Middle East but has much of its culture and heritage, is therefore an ideal destination.

"It's an exotic country with an exotic appeal," said Thomas Hollowell, owner of Journey Beyond Travel, pointing out that north Africa is easily reachable for western travellers.

Morocco is looking to maintain this boom in visitor numbers through increased investment in its tourism industry. The country hopes to attract some ten million travellers by 2010.

This is likely to boost opportunities for property investors in Morocco as demand for holiday accommodation increases.
