Morocco highlighted as a country with 'great investment opportunities'
Morocco is a country with particularly strong investment opportunities, according to new comments from Italy's foreign secretary and former prime minister, Massimo D'Alema.
The Italian minister has been in north Africa on a tour of Morocco and Tunisia, designed to foster links between Italy and these countries.
Mr D'Alema said he wishes to form a stronger economic relationship with Morocco during a meeting in Rabat with prime minister Driss Jettou and Moroccan foreign minister Mohamed Benaissa.
The Adnkronos International news agency quotes Mr D'Alema as saying: "We want to encourage Italian investments in a country which is growing very fast, is carrying out important reforms where there are great opportunities as there is an open economy."
Italy is Morocco's third most prominent trading partner and some 250,000 people from the north African country reside in Italy.
In related news, the Moroccan ambassador to the US gave a speech at Dartmouth College in which he said that his government is trying to make Morocco as "business-friendly" as possible in order to attract investment.
