Morocco recommended to holidaymakers

Consumers in the US have been advised to consider taking a holiday in Morocco this year.

The north African country was recommended by the Seattle Times to people on the strength of its growing tourist market.

According to the publication, the government is actively promoting Morocco as a holiday destination and investing in a series of infrastructure improvements to accommodate the extra visitors.

Tangiers was highlighted as an especially popular destination, partly because its proximity to Spain made it very accessible from its neighbouring country.

The Seattle Times said: "The town is as Moroccan as ever, yet more enjoyable and less stressful."

Morocco's government is currently trying to attract a greater number of foreign visitors to the country.

Official figures recently revealed that it received 7.4 million leisure travellers last year, although it is aiming to boost this to ten million by 2010.
