Morocco sees increase in tourist numbers

Morocco is continuing to attract a large number of foreign tourists this year, according to new figures.

The country's department of tourism published data showing that between January and July 2007, the number of tourists visiting the country was 10% higher than in the previous year.

Morocco was found to be especially popular among the French, as more than 1.7 million visited the country in the year to date.

Tourists from other European countries were also found to consider it a good holiday option, potentially boosting its standing as an overseas investment hotspot.

Approximately 285,000 Belgians holidayed in Morocco between January and July, along with 261,000 Britons.

A large number of visitors from the Netherlands, Germany and Italy was also recorded, a trend that was partially attributed the cost of low-cost airlines offering passage between Morocco and these countries.

Earlier this week, holiday firm Take the Family stated that people who would previously have been unable to travel abroad are now able to see more of the world because of budget air carriers.
