Movement "beginning to occur" across the UK housing market

Speculation that a housing market recovery is set to take place is supported by new figures, the Association of Residential Letting Agents (Arla) has stated.

According to the organisation, fewer people are being forced to rent out homes because of difficulty in selling.

The research indicated a third consecutive decline in the last quarter, with 60% of Arla member offices reporting property being let rather than sold.

With that level being compared to 80% in the previous three-month period and 95% from January to March, buy-to-let property investors could be poised to benefit from improvements in the housing sector.

And Arla operations manager Ian Potter remarked: "The fact that the number of reluctant landlords has dropped once again - and supported by the rise in demand for buy-to-let - suggests that movement is beginning to occur across the market."

It comes after the Building Societies Association observed an increase in mortgage lending for September, with the return of buyers and sellers cited as a key reason.
