Music fans ready themselves for the International Istanbul Jazz Festival
Istanbul's rising stock as a top European live music venue could be enhanced further with the 14th annual International Istanbul Jazz Festival during July, which features a star-studded line-up.
While ostensibly a jazz event, the festival actually comprises a wide variety of differing styles, including Latin, pop and alternative rock.
This year, former Led Zeppelin singer Robert Plant will play with his new band, the Strange Sensation, while the Robin Gibb of Bee Gees fame will perform with Philharmonia Istanbul.
British crooner Michael Bolton will revisit some Sinatra numbers, while Norah Jones, Bryan Ferry and Canadian indie rockers the Dears will also be on show.
The festival organisers stated: "With its boundless energy, it has become one of the most important events on the Istanbul cultural scene." The event runs between July 3rd 2007 through to July 18th 2007.
Earlier this year, it was announced that Istnabul would hold its own concert for the Live Earth festivities, which are designed to heighten the awareness of global warming.
