New Cyprus service to fly from regional airport
Access to Cyprus from north-east England has been boosted with the announcement of new cheap flights to the island.
From April next year, Flyglobespan will offer passage between Durham Tees Valley Airport and Paphos, potentially boosting tourism in the region.
This could also have the effect of making the Mediterranean island more attractive as an overseas property investment spot.
Hugh Lang, managing director of Durham Tees Valley Airport, welcomed the announcement, saying that offered local people a greater choice of low-cost flights from the area.
He commented: "This new service to Paphos, Cyprus is great news for the airport and in particular the travelling public of the north-east."
Tom Dalrymple, chairman of Flyglobespan, added that carrier had "high hopes" for the service, as it believed Paphos would prove to be a popular choice for holidaymakers from the north-east.
Earlier this week, the head of the Larnaca Tourism and Development Awareness Company told the Cyprus Mail that about half of all the tourists on the island were British.
