Northern Portugal becoming more popular
Property buyers from the UK are increasingly snapping up houses in northern Portugal, according to a media report.
The Times cited figures from the Portuguese Real Estate Association showing that 18,000 Britons purchased a home in the country last year.
However, the newspaper said a growing number of people are choosing to look away from traditional hotspots such as the Algarve in favour of less-established alternatives.
Liam Donnelly, a property buyer from the UK, told the Times that he opted to buy in the Minho region because it offers much lower house prices than rival markets in the south.
He commented: "Most English people head to the Algarve, but you have to pay English prices.
"It is beautiful, cheaper and less developed here."
The comments come soon after Simon Perks of Santander Totta told the Resident that Portugal is "synonymous" with quality among both British and Irish property buyers.
