'Now's the time to buy in France'

At a time when France is becoming increasingly popular with British holidaymakers and expatriates, property investors are being urged to snap up the country's housing stock.

According to VEF, Provence Var is proving particularly popular with Brits, who are eager to soak up the sun and enjoy the region's laidback lifestyle.

The firm, which expects property growth in Provence to be above the national average of six to eight per cent, is urging UK investors to act fast as the majority of buyers in the region tend to be French investors.

This is having the effect of pushing up prices, which means the more UK investors delay, the greater the risk of having to obtain a larger mortgage.

According to MasterCard, France is considered to be at the centre of European commerce as it accounts for the greatest percentage of transactions by Maestro cards issued in the UK and elsewhere in Europe.
