Pipeline will 'help Turkey EU drive'
A new pipeline project is aiming to strengthen the ties between Turkey and the European Union (EU), according to reports.
Energy minister in the country Hilmi Guler said that the deal, which has seen the country sign an agreement with Greece and Italy to bring natural gas to the European markets, should aid the country's standing as it looks to get closer to the EU, reports Today's Zaman.
It is hoped that the arrangement will lead to Turkey becoming the fourth energy "artery" in the EU, something that its government places high in importance.
Such a deal follows the negotiation process that lasted for months, the paper stated.
"My earnest desire is to accomplish the tripartite agreement that includes Turkey, Greece and Italy and to pull together a new collaboration for the south corridor," Mr Guler stated last week.
Earlier this week, it was reported that investors are optimistic in the present Turkish situation - such as HSBC Trinkaus & Burkhardt analyst Thomas Amend, as it offers stability.
