Portugal and Spain identified as golf hotspots
A report from KPMG has stated that Portugal and Spain will continue to be the world's most popular destinations for golf holidays in the next few years.
The Golf Travel Insight study from KPMG's Golf Advisory Practice, which involved more than 80 specialist golf operators in 21 countries earlier this year, found that Portugal and Spain continue to lead the international market for golf tourism.
In addition, less-established golfing destinations such as Turkey and the United Arab Emirates were revealed to be growing in stature in the golfing community.
Andrea Sartori, head of KPMG's Golf Advisory Practice for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, commented: "From our research it seems well established destinations are not losing market share thanks to their deep golfing traditions and the quality of their golf.
"It's encouraging to see that 90% of tour operators anticipate either steady or spectacular growth in the future."
In findings that may be of interest to property investors in Spain and Portugal, the study also found that the typical holiday golfer takes a week-long break and spends 250 euros per day during the trip.
Oceanico Group recently opened its new Amendoeira Golf Resort in the Algarve, featuring a championship course designed by Nick Faldo.
