Portugal attracts Irish holiday home buyers

Second home buyers from Ireland are increasingly snapping up homes in Portugal, according to a newspaper report.

The Irish Independent stated that in recent years, the European country has become a highly popular destination for holidaymakers.

This was said to be partly due to attractions such as its close proximity to Ireland, as well as its good weather and "stunning landscape".

As a result, many people from Ireland are now choosing to buy second homes in Portugal and enjoy its natural attributes on a more regular basis.

The Algarve was highlighted as one major hotspot for foreign buyers, largely because it offers an unspoiled environment.

Commenting on the region, the Irish Independent said: "Surrounding areas have been saved from the unsightly overdevelopment that has afflicted some neighbouring countries."

The report comes shortly after Simon Perks of Santander Totta told the Resident that Portugal is "synonymous" with quality among both British and Irish property buyers.
