Portugal opened up to UK travellers
Consumers in north-west England will soon be able to benefit from increased access to mainland Europe.
New services between Manchester Airport and the Portuguese capital Lisbon are set to be launched by bmibaby later this year.
The flights should be operational in time for the peak summer season, although passengers can begin booking their seats straightaway.
This represents a further improvement to the accessibility of Portugal from the UK and could potentially boost tourist numbers in the European country.
As a result, Lisbon and its surrounding areas will be likely to attract more interest from foreign property buyers in the north of England.
Crawford Rix, managing director of bmibaby, commented: "The introduction of flights to Lisbon will offer the traveller a chance to visit a fascinating historical city."
He added that the link would also act as a "gateway" to access many of the "hidden gems and undiscovered areas" of Portugal.
Earlier this month, UK-based newspaper the Sun described the country as a "land of contrasts", due to its wide variety of leisure attractions.
