Portugal recommended to holidaymakers

Holidaymakers from the UK have been advised to consider visiting Portugal by a national newspaper.

The Telegraph stated that the European country offered numerous attractions such as its good weather, scenery and sandy beaches.

However, the publication recommended that people broaden their options and not automatically opt for a holiday in the popular Algarve region.

Readers were told that other parts of the country offered leisure attractions such as national parks, nature reserves and facilities for boating, swimming and fishing.

In addition, the newspaper said many regions had a "rich cultural heritage".

"Portugal is a country that deserves deeper exploration," the Telegraph commented.

The publication added that it was also the cheapest part of the eurozone, with overall costs much cheaper than in places such as Spain.

Last month, the Portuguese government announced that a new airport would be created in Alcochete, close to Lisbon.

This could potentially boost tourism in areas such as the Silver Coast in western Portugal.
