Portugals's Algarve named as a 'golfer's heaven' by expert
The Algarve has been named by one golf expert as a "golfer's heaven" - not simply because the courses are of a high standard - but also because of the beautiful landscape and historical treasures to be found in the Portuguese region.
David Brice of Golf International claims that the mix of good food and wine, remarkable historic towns and shopping makes the Algarve "thoroughly unique" unique in comparison to other major golfing destinations.
Indeed, he notes that regardless of the fine golf courses to be found, the region could still be "one of the world's best vacation spots", which also explains the popularity of the Algarve as a place in which to buy property.
Quoted on the PGA Tour website, Mr Brice remarks: "You should visit The Algarve for her golf, but what you will take away will be far more - an Algarvean experience, guaranteed to live in your memory for many years to come."
Mr Brice also recommended visiting Tavira, a town he described as "the most beautiful on the Algarve" because of its churches and 18th century mansions.
Faro houses the region's airport, which hosts a number of budget airlines from the UK and other countries.
