Portuguese estate agents 'remain optimistic'

The downturn in the global economy is not denting the optimism of estate agents in Portugal, it has been reported.

According to the Times, the real estate sector believes the country's housing market will continue to perform strongly in the near future.

The newspaper highlighted a number of factors which are currently supporting it, such as the number of cheap flights to popular areas.

Low-cost airlines were credited with helping to make Portugal an attractive location for second home buyers from other countries.

In addition, the Times stated that the Portuguese government has become increasingly keen to attract both foreign investors and holidaymakers.

In order to achieve this aim, authorities have overhauled various planning and environment laws during the last 12 months.

This comes after currency specialist FC Exchange revealed that Portugal is also attracting many investors because it offers much lower property values than many other nations.
